At least in my own life, I have found that people are not taught how to grieve or cope with tragic events in healthy ways. There tends to be a lot of sympathy from others in times of loss, but not a lot of empathy. This book shows empathy. It’s clear that Mase “gets it” and seeks to share his experiences through this book with the hope of helping others through their own difficult times. Not only that but as a trans and queer person, this book offers a host of affirmations and validation that went a long way for me personally. Reading the work of another trans person in this way is something that I am incredibly grateful for. The poetry featured throughout the book is brilliant, and I genuinely appreciate Mase’s vulnerability and the emotional labor that must have gone into creating this book. If other people’s experiences are anything like mine, this book and its messages will stick with you. Despite its short length, there are a lot of valuable lessons to be learned within its pages. I look forward to future work put out by J Mase III.

J Mase III, has offered us a power packed little gem! I laughed out loud at that haiku. When I’d finished it (in one sitting!), I couldn’t decide if I should cry or get back to work or read it over again. I was all in my feelings and inspired all at once. Honestly, I’ve never read a book quite like this. Poetry. Inspiration. Permission to feel. Even practical ideas for moving forward. Thank you, Mase!

I cracked this book open and cried from start to finish. Never have I felt so seen and validated.
